Sandalwood is now a rare tree in this world due to the rapidly diminishing numbers of the Santalum trees in their natural habitat in Asia. Used to be commonly found throughout Asia especially India and Indonesia, its population has declined rapidly due to its much-sought heavenly-like fragrance in the past 2 centuries. In India, for instance, it has been used extensively in household products such as soap, detegent, shampoo, facial creams etc due to its good antiseptic puritying powers. In temples, it is also used extensively as beams/pillars, and during special religion ceremonies, its powder is mixed with sandalwood oil to be blessed and then applied a little on the forehead of the followers. Also due to its strong fixing properties, Sandalwood Oil has also been used as a base oil in top grade perfumes.
